The Place...

...built from a dream, restored with care, and ready for its next chapter....

Set in the heart of Portugal’s Alentejo, The Place at Evoramonte is a beautifully restored guesthouse and café — now available for private sale - as a going concern or to easily return to a family home.

Here, between the vast skies and ancient stone walls, life slows down to its natural rhythm.

It’s a home, a business, and a way of life — all in one remarkable setting.

From ruin to retreat

Every home has a history — but this one has a heartbeat.

The Place at Evoramonte didn’t start as a business plan or an investment idea. It started as a dream — a quiet, persistent thought that life could be simpler, slower, and more connected.

What began as a crumbling shell on a cobbled street became the centre of our lives for nearly a decade: a creative project, a labour of love, and a small celebration of everything we value — authenticity, warmth, and time well spent.

We aren’t sure where the dream started exactly — but it started.

Somewhere between long days in London and late-night talks about “what really matters,” the idea of our own place began to take shape.

A few rooms. A small café. A home with open doors and open skies.

A place where work and life would blend in a way that felt honest.

When we first saw Evoramonte, it wasn’t the view that sealed it — though that helped.

It was the feeling.

This tiny hilltop village, steeped in history and surrounded by golden light, felt suspended in time.

And right there, on Rua da Santa Maria, stood the ruin. Crumbling, quiet, forgotten… but full of possibility.

Everyone else saw what it was.

We saw what it could be.

The renovation was long, dusty, and relentless. Stone by stone, we brought it back to life — not as a polished hotel, but as a place with soul. A place where guests could slow down, breathe again, and reconnect with the simple things — light, food, conversation, silence.

We called it The Place at Evoramonte because we couldn’t think of anything simpler, or truer. It became more than a guesthouse — it became a meeting point between travellers and locals, past and present, work and rest.

Today, it stands as both a home and a story — one built on the belief that beautiful things take time, and that life is richest when lived with purpose.

From ruin to retreat, this has been a journey of patience, vision, and love — and the result is something deeply special.

Now, here’s what The Place has become today...

The Place today – Where life slows down beautifully

Perched high on the medieval hill of Evoramonte, The Place looks out across the endless plains of the Alentejo — a view that changes by the hour and never gets old.

Inside, the main house balances history and simplicity.

A light-filled café and terrace that open to the valley and the sunsets beyond.

It’s a space that draws travellers from around the world — and locals too. Writers, artists, walkers, wine lovers, and those who just need a pause.

Four guest rooms, each designed with calm, natural tones.

What makes it special:

It’s a life of rhythm and reflection — the kind of life that rewards those who pause long enough to enjoy it.

And if that sounds like the kind of chapter you’d like to write next, read on.

The next chapter – Could this be yours?

Every place has its seasons.

For us, The Place at Evoramonte has been one of creation, restoration, and quiet joy.

We’ve hosted travellers from around the world. We’ve watched sunsets from the terrace, shared stories over wine, and felt grateful every morning for the light that pours through the kitchen window.

But now, it’s time for someone else to take it forward.

Maybe that’s you — someone who feels the same pull we did when we first stood on this hill.

Someone who sees more than walls and rooms — who sees potential, community, and a slower, richer rhythm of life.

The Place is ready for its next chapter.

Whether you continue it as a thriving guesthouse, reimagine it as a private home, or turn it into something entirely new — the hard part is done. The foundations, both physical and emotional, are in place.

We’ve written the first chapter.

Now it’s ready for its next author.
